Celebrate and honour the extraordinary life of Santa Rita de Cássia with this beautiful 20 cm image. Known as the saint of impossible causes, St Rita was born in 1381 in Italy and from an early age showed a deep dedication to the spiritual life. Although she faced many adversities in her personal life, including a forced marriage and the tragic loss of her husband and children, she never lost her faith.
After the death of her family, St Rita entered the Augustinian monastery in Cascia, where she lived the last 40 years of her life in prayer and penance. During her life in the convent, she is said to have received stigmata on her forehead, a sign of her mystical union with Christ. Saint Rita is often depicted with roses or with the stigmata on her forehead, symbolising her devotion and the miracles associated with it.
