The yellow corn flakes are used to make the famous Brazilian "Cuscuz" from the Northeast (called "Cuscuz Nordestino"). It is a nutritious, cheap and really simple dish that the Portuguese colonisers brought to Brazil from North Africa.
It is a steamed dish made of corn flour that looks like a cake. A steamer is needed to prepare it, the "cuscuzeira". Alternatively, cuscuz can be cooked in a deep dish. The coconut couscous, is the sweet version of this recipe, enriched with coconut and sugar.
