Alpedrinha is a historic village in Cova da Beira that saw the birth of Cardinal D. Jorge da Costa "Cardinal of Alpedrinha" in 1406. D. Jorge da Costa was a key figure in Portugal and in the Vatican. It was under his influence that the Holy House of Mercy of Lisbon. He had enormous power in the Holy See, having been elected Pope, which he refused in favour of Julius II. In addition to him, Dom Jorge da Costa accompanied the lives of three other Popes - Sixtus IV, Innocent VIII and Alexander VI. The "Cardinal of Alpedrinha" was also the mentor of the Treaty of Tordesillas
